Mandalay

Club Mandalay is a public building providing the anchor facilities for a 3000 home community in Beveridge, North of Melbourne.

The building hosts a wide range of users: from golfers in the bar after a round on the Peter Thomson designed course, kids using the pool and café, and locals in the gym before work.

BayleyWard implemented a bold architecture that could stand proud as a backdrop for this community over the years ahead without becoming formal or austere.

The warmth of natural timber expressed in ceilings and built in furniture speaks to the welcoming of a diverse visitor group, whilst 6m high walls clad in stained ply provide a texture that bridges the human scale and that of a pavilion building read in the open landscape surrounding Mount Fraser. The project was a finalist in Timber Awards 2018.
