Leicester Street

130 Leicester street is a student housing project in the heart of the city between Carlton and the CBD. It aims to accommodate more than 300 premium units, with some of the most sophisticated communal amenity space for students in Melbourne. A massive improvement to the local urban context is achieved by activating the ground floor and giving space back to the local community through the use of a public laneway from Leicester street to the lanes at the rear.

130 Leicester St is an urban response to a studio apartment sized problem.

Sustainabilty was a key driver in the evolution of the design. Shading to the northern facade is achieved through screening and creation of framed terraces. The development offers some of the most sophisticated communal amenity space for students in Melbourne. Extensive integrated planting improves air quality and reduces urban heat island effect within the vicinity.

The building responds intelligently to overlooking and overshadowing conditions on the site. A massive improvement to the local urban context is achieved by activating the ground floor, and providing connectivity from Leicester street to an existing laneway network at the rear.
